Why sauna and cold plunge?

From reducing stress to detoxifying the body, the benefits of sauna are many.

The combination of sauna and 1-2 minute cold plunges, known as contrast therapy, has been show to have numerous health benefits, including improved circulation, reduced inflammation and enhanced mental clarity.

Sauna Safety

Without proper caution, some temperatures can become dangerous for some sauna-goers. Still, saunas remain popular for promoting wellness, a practice rooted in centuries-old traditions. Sweating helps the body detox, while heating tissues encourages healing, much like a fever helps the body fight infections. Saunas also improve circulation and alleviate muscle and joint pain.

To enjoy the benefits safely, follow these 10 rules for sauna safety:

Know your limits: If you feel dizzy, nauseous, or develop a headache, leave immediately. Pushing your body to the extreme is not the path to wellness—moderation is key.

Limit your time: Stay in for 15 to 20 minutes, though some suggest up to 30 minutes. The right duration depends on your body’s heat tolerance. If you’re sensitive to heat, start with shorter sessions.

Rest afterward: Allow your body to recover by resting for at least 10 minutes after exiting the sauna.

Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water before and after your session. If you sweat a lot, consider eating something salty to replenish electrolytes.

Use the buddy system: Going with a friend or family member ensures support if needed—and saunas are more fun when shared!

Cool down: In Finland, it’s traditional to plunge into the snow after a sauna. A cold shower is a more accessible option and will also help rinse off toxins your body has expelled, preventing reabsorption.

Be mindful of heart health: The heat can make your heart work harder. Avoid saunas if you have heart problems unless cleared by your doctor.

Avoid right after meals or exercise: Don’t enter a sauna immediately following a large meal or intense physical activity.

Avoid intoxication: Never enter a sauna while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Watch for burns: Spending too long in high heat can cause burns or blisters. If your skin starts to sting, exit immediately. The average sauna operates at around 85°C, but temperatures can range from 60°C to 110°C.

It doesn’t get any better than this.

Rejuvenate your body and mind with a revitalizing sauna and cold plunge session.

The sauna’s soothing heat paired with the refreshing cold plunge leaves you feeling energized and refreshed. Whether you’re looking to unwind or enhance your wellness routine, a sauna and cold plunge session is the perfect way to recharge and feel your best.
